BC Athletic History – Girls Flag Football

What a special night last Wednesday was for the Berks Catholic community. The first ever Girls Flag Football Game in Berks County history took place at the Forino Sports Complex on campus with the Saints taking on Big Spring High School. This was truly a groundbreaking night for women’s high school sports. The players and coaches were incredible, and the fans brought tremendous energy to the stadium. Special thanks to Student Government President Senior Julian Rios who served as the PA announcer; while Student Government Vice President Senior Adrian Polanco managed the sidelines and handled countless details behind the scenes. 

 

Victoria Agostini ’27 recorded the first interception in Berks County girls flag football history, and quarterback McKenzie Robinson ’28 completed the first pass to Molly Hearing ‘27, who made the first reception in county history. Abby Cannon ’28 added another historic milestone by scoring the first touchdown in Berks County girls flag football history. The girls competed in front of a tremendous crowd, highlighted by the entire varsity football team cheering them on from the student section. The event also received outstanding local media coverage from WEEU Sports personality Adam Cooke and Paul Roberts of SV Sports. Owen Trupp ’26 captured the night as photographer, while the PIAA officiating crew of Jared White, Luis Valentine, Rich Robinson, and George Fields helped make the evening a memorable and historic success. While the outcome was a 28-6 defeat, the evening was a memorable and tremendous event! Thank you and congratulations to the players as well as Head Coach Ryan Gonzalez, and his assistant coaches, Michele Mace and Dan Skalski.
